Results Cup of Excellent Experiences
20-10-2008First of all we would like to thank you for participating in the Cup.
The submissions provided instructive experiences of - among others -
cotton, fruits, coffee, rice, vanilla and tea commodities. We received
cases from three continents and in total out of 20 different countries!
The jury therefore had a quite tough task to complete.
After having received all jury comments, the following four producer organisations are nominated as winners of the Cup. The jury was impressed by these experiences because of the innovativeness, clear impact description and the sustainability of the practices described. Also, the experiences are relevant and can be replicated by other producer organisations across different regions, continents and commodities.
The four nominees, in alphabetical order, are:
- ARPAC, a producer organisation in Peru who provides local market access to various small scale agricultural producers
- Cecocafen, a coffee cooperative in Nicaragua who excelled in developing a credit system focusing on women empowerment
- Central Kenya Dairy, a producer association who focussed upon multi stakeholder alliances and quality enhancements concerning dairy production
- KNCU, a coffee cooperative in Tanzania who set up a independent and sustainable tourism project
Another surprise: we found extra sponsors for the competition. Among them the Dutch fair trade and organic coffee importing company A. van Weely BV. This ‘A.van Weely Award' (2000 USD) will go to a nominated coffee cooperative with a very interesting experience.
A local event will be organized for each producer organisation in order to award the prices and to announce the ranks.
Which organisation can call herself "Winner of the Cup of Excellent Experiences" and which one winner of the A. van Weely Award, and why, is for now still a surprise!
The awards will be presented in the coming weeks, please keep up to date though the website.
